Multiplayer games are one of the backbones of our gaming society. So, if you want those kinds of titles in 2024, check out the games on this list!
#44 ARK 2
Ark 2 is a survival MMORPG developed by Studio Wildcard and Groovestreet Games. The game will see the light of the day under the banner of Studio Wildcard. Similar to the original Ark, the central idea of Ark 2 is the bizarre new world teeming with dinosaurs and humans that can’t help themselves but to battle for control of this prehistoric and intact world. Although Studio Wildcard and Groovestreet Games aimed to retain the core gameplay, they did, in fact, introduce new features such as a new story, cross-platform modding, third-person-only gameplay and dynamic world events.
#43 Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown
Following Test Drive Unlimited 2, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown is a racing game that will be released for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Immortalizing the central features of previous games in the series and modernizing them, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown brings about a brand new lifestyle and driving experience that emphasizes your freedom in terms of progress.
Situated in Hong Kong Island, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown offers a wide variety of cars ranging from Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Koenigsegg, and Apollo to Dodge and Bugatti. However, driving these marques remains a privilege, not right, thus obliging you to work your way up to the heights.
#42 Lightyear Frontier
Unlike many games on this list, Lightyear Frontier is a peaceful open-world farming adventure that leaves you on a distant planet as you build your new home, farm exotic plants and explore the raw and unpredictable wilderness. Although this is seemingly a solo adventure, you can invite up to three friends and, with joint efforts, build your home on a planet on the verge of the galaxy.
#41 Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game
Killer Klowns From Outer Space: The Game pays homage to the cult classic horror comedy movie of the same name from 1988. This terrifying yet comedic title looks set to turn hide-and-seek mechanics on its head as players jump into some 3 versus 7 asymmetrical gameplay. As the titular Killer Klowns, players will step into the shoes of the murderous entertainers from outer space.
They’ll need to hunt down and kill off the rebellious residents of Crescent Cove, who players can become as they hide and fight off the creepy predators from another world. Equipped with zany weapons from a clown’s toolbox, players are sure to have plenty of fun stalking and catching their opponents, who are bound to have an equally great time escaping the onslaught and perhaps even turning the tables on their attackers.
#40 Level Zero
If you stay in the light, you might survive. But if you linger in the dark, you won’t lie long. Level Zero is a 4v2 multiplayer title where scientists on a station try to survive as they make the place functional again.
What are they trying to survive? A pair of aliens that want nothing more than to rip them limb from limb. Their only salvation is that the aliens can’t handle the light. Use that to your advantage as you work to get the station operational and bring the lights back on.
Four of you will be the scientists, and two will be the aliens. Who will win? That depends on how you do with your team.
#39 Skull and Bones
Skull & Bones is an upcoming Ubisoft video game where players will set out on the sea searching for loot and goods to steal. The gameplay mechanics look similar to Ubisoft’s past video game release, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, where players will call out orders to their crew during combat while sailing their ship. This will also be a multiplayer-focused experience as players can team up and fight against one another. Likewise, there is always competition to become the most notorious pirate within the sea. Players have been waiting for this game.
#38 Helldivers 2
Sometimes you just want to get into a game and blow stuff up because you have the weapons to do so. In Helldivers 2, you’ll be gifted with all sorts of destructive tools for blowing up aliens to defend Super Earth!
But the best part is you get to work with three friends to do it in style and with even bigger explosions! The alien threats will come after you one wave at a time. The more waves you survive, the more you can upgrade your arsenal for even more destructive potential.
So build your team to work harmoniously with one another, then have a blast as you destroy aliens left and right!
#37 Homeworld 3
Gearbox Publishing is bringing the GOTY-winning sci-fi RTS that will sweep everyone off their feet. Homeworld 3, a breathtaking standalone game of the Homeworld series, continues its sci-fi legacy with unique gameplay, 3D space and strategic freedom. Homeworld 3 will, besides being a luxurious universe rich with electrifying visuals, push your limits, testing your imaginativeness, leadership skills, and mechanical dominance. Other major features include 1v1s, free-for-all battles and an all-new co-op mode.
#36 Stormgate
Former developers of Warcraft III and StarCraft II united under the name of Frost Giant Studios with a dream to continue the legacy of storytelling and innovative co-op gameplay are designing their first game, Stormgate. Stormgate will be a free-to-play real-time intricate strategy telling the story of a war between humans and an alien invasion. Seemingly the RTS everyone’s been waiting for, Stormgate will include the options of a solo adventure and team-oriented mode with an emphasis on the competitive 1v1 ladder.
#35 Nightingale
Fae Realms is an intoxicating realm of Nightingale that invites the player to embrace the role of Realmwalker. However, you don’t need to venture into these unknown lands all alone, but you can bring a few friends as you explore, craft, build and fight the untamed wilderness of Fae Realms. As you try to become a renowned Realmwalker who can effortlessly navigate the web of transdimensional portals, you need to venture through a series of different portals that test your skills, push you to your limits and help you grow.
#34 Suicide Squad Kill The Justice League
The creators of the Batman: Arkham series, Warner Bros. Games, are returning in 2024 with a new action-adventure shooter, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. In Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, the Suicide Squad will begin an operation to vanquish the World’s Greatest DC Super Heroes, the Justice League.
Although eradicating every trace of the Justice League may be child’s play for the Suicide Squad, they must also remain mindful of an invading alien force that will stop at nothing just to destroy the planet. Warner Bros. Games entrusted each villain with a unique moveset, various easily customizable weapons and skills that demand mastering. Besides, the players will be able to choose between enjoying the game in a single-player mode or teaming up with friends in multiplayer co-op.
#33 Palworld
Oh, how tired we are about talking about Palworld. We don’t know what this game did to get on so many of our lists, but yes, we’re tired of it!
It’s one of the worst kinds of knockoffs because they’re trying to capture certain gamers’ ” attention ” while subverting what they will experience. In the game, you and your friends can capture monsters and then get them to do your bidding. Standard stuff, right?
Except, you can make them a labor force, give them guns to wield, or you can eat them! Do we have to state how wrong that is? That’s what we thought.
#32 Blight Survival
War is supposed to be a simple thing. You’re meant to go out into a battlefield and wipe out your enemy before they do the same to you. In medieval times, one could argue that it was the simplest form of war.
But in Blight Survival, that simplicity will be shattered. A corruptive force has fallen into the no man’s land of two nations at war, and its influence is raising the dead! Now, a group of knights have volunteered to go into that blight-filled place and attempt to root out the cause so that life may go on.
But how far can you go before the blight’s forces overwhelm you?
#31 Carnival Hunt
You might have thought there were some “safe spaces” in this multiplayer list. But that’s not the case at all.
In Carnival Hunt, you’ll play as toys that are within a monstrous carnival. The asymmetrical multiplayer game will have some of you play as toy bunnies that must outlast a toy monster that is trying to eat them! The catch? Both the bunnies and the monster are on a “charge.” The bunnies can use wind-up tools to boost their charge, but a limited number exists!
So work together, do what you can to last longer, and don’t get eaten! Or, if you’re the monster, eat them all!
#30 DokeV
We’ve already talked about one “monster capture” game, but DokeV aims to be slightly different than others in more ways than one.
First off, the team behind the title has said that they crafted the world to make it one that players will recognize. As in that, this is the “real world,” but one that happens to have monsters in it.
Furthermore, the creatures of the game, known as the Dokebi, have unique relationships with their “masters” because they seek to make their dreams come true. We’ll have to wait for more details on this title, but we can say that it does seem to have potential.
#29 Once Human
Now, let’s move on to something a bit different. In Once Human, the world has not only been overrun by aliens but said aliens have infected everything within the world, even the very soil you walk on.
You play as someone who is able to use the alien infection to get certain abilities. But how you use them is up to you. Plus, you need to try to survive this infected world, and that isn’t easy when the water and food that you eat and drink are just as infected as everything else!
Will you risk your health and sanity just to make it another day and continue the fight?
#28 Pax Dei
Let’s move to a true MMO title now in Pax Dei. The game is set in a medieval world where magic and the supernatural are as plentiful as the gods above.
The twist with this MMO is that you and your friends can build whatever you desire and help make the world better, and you can do it without having to fight anything. The game starts you in the Heartlands, which the gods protect. You can make a home, build up a guild, and more.
But if you want to explore and have adventures, you can travel away from this safe haven and see what awaits you in the lands beyond!
#27 ALOFT
How about we take things to the sky for the next title? In ALOFT, you’ll be set on an island that is floating high in the sky and is enclosed around a massive hurricane that never stops.
To go on your adventure, you must put sails to your island home and then guide the island to new islands to see what lies beyond your own borders. How you build up your island is up to you, as well as where you take it for your next adventure!
The possibilities are endless, so don’t be afraid to try things out and see what you can do. Just remember, you’re not alone on these islands…
#26 Synduality: Echo of Ada
Well, that’s an interesting name for a video game, wouldn’t you say? Synduality: Echo of Ada takes players to a post-apocalyptic world where a poisonous rain has forced humanity underground, and they’re fighting for survival against monsters known as Enders.
You and your friends play as Drifters, who roam the underground world looking for crystals that can help them survive. But that’s not easy with so many Enders around, so they’ll need to use their AI partners to help them get where they need to be and fight off any threats they come across.
Do you think you can survive your next mission?
#25 Beautiful Light
There have been many titles that have embraced the PvPvP gameplay style, and Beautiful Light is another one. You’ll be put in a dark world where you can be one of two things. The first is a human known as an extractor, who is part of a group that raids enemy bases looking for things.
Or, you can be an anomaly who tries to disrupt everything and take out other players. With multiple teams on the battlefield, both human and anomaly, there will be plenty to fight, so you’ll need to keep your wits about you.
Survive, adapt, and take out anything that stands in your way.
#24 Sand
Alternate history games are quite popular, and Sand is one that will take you to the stars via an Earth that is WAY ahead of its time.
The twist is that the planet you go to was the home of a once great empire. But now, its remains are covered in sand, and there are rumors that great treasures lie within its sandy dunes. As such, many people, including yourself and other players, race to the world to see what they can discover.
Alongside massive machines, you’ll attempt to mine the planet’s resources and see how well you can use them to claim something special for yourself.
#23 Towerborne
There are many co-op games out there for friends to tag team in an attempt to save the world, and Towerborne will do that with a fun setting.
The game is set in a world where humanity is confined within a tower, thanks to the monsters that lurk all around it. You are one of its protectors, known as Ace. Ace is a spirit with special abilities, making them the perfect warrior to fight for humanity’s freedom.
Venture out into the world with friends and fight monsters left and right, powering up every time you do. So, fight on until life can go on!
#22 ALARA Prime
Here’s another PvPvP title, but it focuses on gameplay and tactics versus being in a creepy world! In ALARA Prime, one team will be trying to defend an item known as the “Uplink.” The other two teams will attack the defenders and attempt to get the item for themselves.
That might sound simple, but given the weapons and tactics involved, it’s anything but. You’ll need to work perfectly alongside your teammates to take on not only the defenders but the other team, too!
There are many ways each battle can go, and so you’ll have to be quick, smart, and resourceful to come out on top!
#21 No More Room in Hell 2
When it comes to worlds with zombies, video games have them in numerous supply. No More Room in Hell 2 is the sequel to one such title, and you’ll be part of a team of eight trying to survive in this infected world.
The goal is simple: you’ll head through massive expanses full of dangers and attempt to get out alive. You’ll need to scavenge for supplies, fight off zombies, and work together to stay alive. With randomized elements in each playthrough, you’re guaranteed a new experience every time. So stay together, stay alert, and get out alive!
Or don’t and get eaten alive.
#20 Ashfall
Here’s a game you can play alone or with friends and have vastly different experiences in! Ashfall puts you in a post-apocalyptic world where you’re trying to find the “Core of Creation.” As you can imagine, being in a wasteland isn’t easy, meaning you’ll have to arm yourself for numerous types of danger.
The good news is that between your friends and the other characters you find in the world, you don’t have to take things on alone. But on the flip side, you will find that other players may not want you to stay alive, and that’s why you might want to stay out of the PVP zones.
#19 Men of War II
It’s honestly a bit surprising we haven’t done a bunch of military titles, but we’ll make up for it with Men of War II.
The game will put you in World War II, and in the campaign mode, you’ll be either the Allies or the Soviets as they try to beat back the Germans. Strategy and realism are the game’s strong suits, and you’ll need to use the best tactics to come out on top.
Then, when you have your bearings, team up with a friend or go up against other players to see who the best strategist among you is! Can you survive the harshness of war?
#18 Broken Arrow
Ah, that’s better. Back-to-back war games that’ll help fill the void we’re feeling.
In Broken Arrow, the focus is more on vehicles and how you use them in combat versus just having a strategy. There are over 300 units from two different factions to wield, and that means you’ll have lots of options to try and make a plan that fits your strategy.
Want to take the battle to the sky and strafe your foes before they can fight back? Do it. Or, if you prefer to bombard your enemies from the sea, you have that option, too.
Be the commander you were born to be and take home the victory!
#17 The Quinfall
Let’s step away from modern warfare and instead jump back into an MMORPG kind of gameplay. The Quinfall doesn’t hold back by saying that it has the largest map of any MMO. That’s a bold claim, and they seem to think that they are able to fill it with tons of stuff to do, so that means you and your friends will have quite the adventure ahead of you.
One thing you can expect from this world is for it to evolve and change. There will be seasons to endure, night and day cycles, and so on.
So don’t be afraid to explore and see what awaits you!
#16 ZEPHON
The end of the world was only the beginning of your struggle in ZEPHON. Humanity was attacked on all sides by numerous foes, but the results of that conflict left all sides in near ruin and the world in a state of true destruction.
When humanity emerges from their shelters, they must fight to rebuild and take on any foes that come after them.
There are numerous elements of gameplay within the title to enjoy. You’ll need to build new cities and expand them so you can train armies, explore new fields of research, and more. Will you be able to bring humanity back to where it belongs?
#15 Maximum Football
Why just play football when you can play Maximum Football? That’s what we thought. Don’t be fooled by its name; this is a realistic simulator of the football experience, and it wants you to dive in and see how far you can push yourself and your team to obtain glory.
You can start out in college and then slowly build yourself up to the pro levels! Since you’re the coach, you’ll make the calls on who to bring into your squad, what plays to run, and more.
With multiple modes to try out and numerous ways to win, you’ll find out soon how good of a coach you are.
#14 Towers of Aghasba
You might have noticed that many video games focus on constructing a world versus finding a balance between said construction and nature.
In Towers of Aghasba, that’s not the case. You’ll be put in a position to restore nature to its rightful state while also building up a colony for your clan to live in and help them expand.
But balance is the key! You’ll need to explore and help rejuvenate nature and then see how you can fairly build up humanity along the way. It won’t be easy, but at least you’ll have help! So get started and see what you can build and grow!
#13 Granblue Fantasy: Relink
Welcome to the Sky Realm! Here, the islands that fill up this cloudy escape are as numerous as the clouds they are within!
But there is a legend of an island just beyond this skyscape, and it could change everything. Luckily for you, you’re a ship captain and will set sail for that island in Granblue Fantasy: Relink! This RPG adventure will have you assembling a nice crew of people and seeing what lies over yonder.
Your crew members have different weapons and skills to harness, so don’t be afraid to use them as you see fit or mix and match to find the best party options!
#12 MechWarrior 5: Clans
Given the recent return of a certain mech franchise, it’s only fair to talk about another mech franchise! In this case, we’re talking about MechWarrior 5: Clans!
The game will put you as part of a resistance movement using their mechs to try and take out and send away the people who have ruled your homeland for many years.
As you might expect, the game will give you plenty of options for your mech, and you’re encouraged to experiment with it to find the proper weapons and armor to take on your foes.
With lots of fights to be had, we’re sure you’ll find your “destined mech.”
#11 Outpost: Infinity Siege
What’s that? You want a game where you can unleash an extreme amount of firepower to blow away your foes and not have to deal with it all on your own?
Well, Outpost: Infinity Siege might just scratch that itch. The game puts you in a world where you’re trying to work your way through areas to get resources. Along the way, as you get more, you’ll build up your outpost to handle all the threats that are coming at you!
You can even jump into a mech suit so that you can handle things more personally! It’s YOUR outpost. Make it as destructive as you want!
#10 ARC Raiders
Here’s a game that has gone through a few iterations, but once ARC Raiders arrives, you and your friends will be quite busy!
The game is set in a world where machines have wiped out much of humanity, and an underground settlement is all that remains! To survive, raiders form parties that go out into the wild to scavenge for supplies and items that can be used!
The problem? The machines that came from the sky will come out and hunt you! You’ll need to quickly get your loot before the machines overwhelm you. Do you think you’re up to the challenge?
#9 The First Descendant
A few games on this list have let you choose who you become, and The First Descendant is another of those titles.
In this world, an alien invasion is threatening to wipe out humanity, and it’s up to the Descendants to defend the world’s remaining continent so that life can go on. Each Descendent has various skills and weapons at their disposal to fight back against the alien threat, so don’t be afraid to see what works!
Then, team up with others for massive boss fights and dive into the true story of the Descendants! What truth lies beyond the surface of this massive war?
#8 Little Nightmares III
The irony of Little Nightmares III is that if we were to have made this list for the last two games, we couldn’t have put this franchise on here. Why? It didn’t have co-op! But with the third entry, they’re finally letting players work together to try and traverse the nightmarish world they now find themselves in.
The game takes place in The Spiral, where two beings called Low & Alone are trying to get out. But that’s not easy when this world isn’t what it seems and it’s full of monsters. Can you work together to get out? Or will this world consume you before you can?
#7 Warhammer 40000: Space Marines II
When you’re a Space Marine, you are often the only thing that stands between civilization and the darkness that lies within the stars.
In Warhammer 40000: Space Marines II, you will be needed more than ever. The forces of chaos are taking whole planets, and the Emperor needs you and your brothers-in-arms to step up and weed out these corrupt entities.
Wield your mighty weapons and take on the hordes of evil so that good may triumph once again. Don’t just do it for yourself, or your brothers, or even the Emperor. Do it because this galaxy needs Space Marines. So suit it and get the job done.
#6 Earth From Another Sun
When you have a massive galaxy to explore, you know that things are going to get interesting, one way or another.
In Earth From Another Sun, you’ll head to a galaxy where your actions will affect everything, and you can affect everything in various ways! Some of you might team up with friends to form a massive fleet of ships to take everything by force.
Or, you might take on your foes in a more economical way and see where that takes you. With a galaxy at your fingertips, the only limit is your imagination. So be what you want to be, and see how the galaxy reacts.
#5 Dune: Awakening
We’re in our final five entries, and Dune: Awakening will be the first we talk about. The benefit of this game is that it’s something you’ll have plenty to do in, as it takes place on the planet Arrakis, and the game leaves you to forge your own destiny!
You can choose your race and house and see what you can do in this world full of sand. No, not like the other game’s sand. This one is spicy sand!
Either way, the game will let you take everything on alone or form an army to try and take everything for yourself! What will you be at the end of your journey?
#4 Destiny 2: The Final Shape
Given what happened at Bungie, it’s almost ironic that we’re talking about this game. But Destiny 2: The Final Shape is still coming out; it will take a little longer, and Bungie is “promising” to make content within it that will please gamers.
After all, this is the end of their main campaign. The DLC has been going on for years and has told and retold the story you thought you knew, and now, it’s coming to an end.
What state it will be in when it arrives is anyone’s guess, but hey, at least they’re trying. So we’ll just hope and wait for its arrival.
#3 Killing Floor 3
Look, we get it. At this point, you just want to have a game where you can join in with friends as they wipe out enemies left and right and make you feel good about killing monsters.
Well, Killing Floor 3 is that title for you to enjoy. In it, you’ll go to a near post-apocalyptic world where an evil corporation has somehow grown monsters to ensure their power, and it’s your job to resist and kill everything in sight!
With your friends as your crew, you’ll wipe the floor with your enemies and do it with incredible weaponry. What could be better?
#2 Tekken 8
The fighting game genre has been trying to “up its game,” pun intended, for many years now. It’s not enough to simply have a fighting game. You need to appeal to those who play it casually and those who want to truly “test their might” to see how they stack up against others.
Tekken 8 is a title that will allow that through its brutal combat style and intense graphics. The game picks up the story right from the previous game, where Kazuya killed Heihachi, and now it’s just him vs. Jin for the crown.
With a stacked roster and numerous styles to toy with, you’ll have plenty of ways to fight.
#1 Grand Theft Auto VI
Yes, it’s true we can’t confirm that Grand Theft Auto VI is coming in 2024, as we only recently got a big update about the game, and that was just about a trailer.
However, if Rockstar Games pulls a fast one and releases the game next year, you know it will have multiplayer elements across many parts of the gameplay. First, there’s likely to be co-op in the main title. Second, there will likely be an online feature like the previous game had, so you can do criminal stuff with your friends.
After all, it was the online component that made Rockstar LOTS of money for over a decade, so why wouldn’t they do that this time? Exactly.
